Annual District Governor Visit: Michael-Jon Pease started by noting the innovations in the District Governor visitations to clubs. District leaders are using a team approach to make getting to all clubs easier and more effective. Click READ MORE for the rest of the summary.
Michael-Jon told us that his first experience with raising money for good causes was as a child with a carnival to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy. That neighborhood event started him down the road to his career in non-profits and his focus on fundraising for good causes. He summarized District 5960 by telling us that there are nearly 60 clubs and 2,100 Rotarians. Our district compares well with many others that Michael-Jon has seen in North America. He urged us to take advantage of the D5960 resources. He asked us what our club can be proud of: Crutches 4 Africa, Diaper Drive, the Jamaica solar project, Youth Exchange, literacy, RYLA, and other services all were mentioned. As a way to promote a club’s impacts, Michael-Jon gave the example of Le Sueur club of 19 that has a banner noting their impact on 20,017 lives in the past year.
District leaders have created impact awards to hand out for accomplishments. Elaine got one for Youth Exchange, Linda for Diaper Drive, Tony for Jumpstart. Michael-Jon said that Tony will be on a team promoting literacy at the RI Convention in Minneapolis convention in May 2028.
Michael-Jon announced that the theme for the RI Convention entertainment is “Where the World Comes Home." Since most of us have not been to a RI convention, this is our best opportunity. District Governor-Elect Lonny Stormo is looking for ways to coordinate the District conference with the RI Convention. The District is rolling out a retention effort and a three-year marketing plan.
